Many thanks for your reply of today. to say that before I left Shameen I have been speaking to Mr. Wallis and he was of opinion that if it would be dan- gerous to come into Shameen it could not be helped to leave Shameen temporarily. It was quite unexpected that the Stri- ke would last long as it is. Now though I can enter Shameen, but outside the Gate there are detectives of the "workmen syndicate they would follow every Chinaman coming out and doing harm to him, therefore I write to request you to explain on my behalf to the Consul General my circumstances that I left Shameen compulsorily and not willingly and I did not expect that I have to suffer a punishment, I hope I am excusable and as it is decided by a meeting to stop pay I beg to ask you to lend me a sum of money which I am quite in
